This past year has been a joy. We celebrated 50 years of ministry—50 years of worship, 50 years of fellowship, 50 years of service to our community and world, 50 years of growth as disciples, in short, 50 years of God’s faithfulness. Christ is Lord!
As you read through the following reports*, I encourage you to read them with thankful minds and hearts. These reports speak to the many ways Jesus has been at work in the life of this congregation. They speak to the many ways the Holy Spirit is leading us, and to the ways we as individuals and as a church are hearing God’s voice and responding in joyful discipleship.
I mentioned in last year’s annual report Jesus’ promise to be with his disciples. If we read the stories behind these reports—the stories between the lines—we can continue to catch glimpses of Christ’s presence in our midst. As we enter into a new season of ministry, looking toward the next 50 years, it is good to remember that the same Jesus who has led us these past 50 years continues to guide us into tomorrow. Jesus Christ is truly the same yesterday, today, and forever. Thanks be to God!
I encourage you to take some time and reflect on where Jesus has been with you through this past year. Where have you been comforted? Where have you been challenged? Where you have been equipped? Where have you been sent in Jesus’ name? Once you have had a chance to reflect on these questions, I encourage you to get together with one or two friends and to share together. In so doing we will be giving a report not just on the church’s programs and our corporate life together, but also on the mysterious work of the Holy Spirit in each of our lives as our Lord continues the work he began in each of us.
As we look toward the future, let us also give thanks to God for the new work to which Jesus is calling us and for which the Spirit is now preparing us. We are a community committed to: Following Jesus. Growing Together. Sharing God’s love with neighbors near and far. This is our mission, and we are living into it so that the world may know the goodness of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Our hope is our vision, and it is to become fully-devoted, everyday followers of Jesus, living together in the unity of the Holy Spirit, loving the world with God to transform lives, families, and communities.
May our celebration of this past year’s ministry, and the knowledge of the Spirit’s continuing work in our lives, give us courage to live into the future with hope. May the knowledge that Christ is ever with us make us willing to give the fullness of ourselves to God’s purposes in the world!
Glory to God!
Jonathan Hughes, Pastor
