It was a blessed year for the Mission Ministry Group and for our mission partners. The Global and Community Awareness Fair was great. Twenty-two ministries and groups were represented; and Mark Harris, western regional director for Medical Benevolence Fund, one of our mission partners, led us in worship.
Our church was actively involved in several mission projects. Our children supported a World Vision child, gave to One Great Hour of Sharing and to Providence Children’s Home for VBS. 14 of us took Dorcas-made afghans and toured David and Margaret Youth and Family Services site. 18 adults worked on a Habitat for Humanity house. We collected school supplies with Pomona Hope for Pomona Hope and Hope Partners’ kids. Many sponsored our 10 walkers who raised $2,321 for Hope Partners’ Walk for the Hungry. At the 11th Alternative Christmas Fair, you generously contributed $955 for Medical Benevolence Foundation, and gave over $7,950 in all!
In 2016, La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church budgeted $44,600 for mission ministry. $20,000 went todenominational missionsupport for projects in our San Gabriel Presbytery and General Assembly. We designated the $20,000 denominational mission support to:
Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship (Tara Chase), Living Waters for the World, Josey Saez-Acevedo and David Cortes-Fuentes, and to General Missions.
Each year, our congregation also directly supportsseveral local, national, and international missions. In 2016, we contributed to:
World Outreach: Glad Tidings-India, International Students, Inc. (Andy Pearce), VAST/Jesus Film Project (Doug Harris), and Medical Benevolence Foundation.
Community Outreach: Angel Interfaith Network, City of La Verne lunch program, David and Margaret Youth and Family Services, Inland Valley Hope Partners, Meals on Wheels, Monte Vista Grove Homes, Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity, and Westminster Gardens.
Education/Leadership: InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (Kate Vosburg), Christian ministry development, Menaul School (scholarships), and Short-term mission projects
In addition, special offerings were received and given to One Great Hour of Sharing: $7,004.50 ($503.31 more this year!) for hunger, disaster relief, and self-development projects; Peacemaking: $2,120 ($586 more than last year!), and our 25% was given to the Outreach Foundation’s Syrian Relief school fund; and, Christmas Joy: $300 for pensions and racial ethnic scholarships.
Your contributions enable us to work toward fulfilling LVHPC’s mission statement: “...to share the gospel and address community and world needs to the glory of God.”
Many thanks to the 2016 Mission Ministry Group: Gloria McLean, Judy Pfeifer, Nancy Sperling and Shelley Ulrich. Thank you, church family, for being active participants and generous supporters of mission ministry.
