Our monthly meetings were led by our moderator Stan Van Horn. The meetings opened with prayer and a devotional time led by our moderator Stan Van Horn or staff Liaison Reverend Lauren Evans.
We were very fortunate to have Reverend Lauren Evans as our staff Liaison this year, Lauren’s guidance, support, training and experience have been of great value to the Deacons.
The following is a summary of the ministry of the Deacons:
Each Deacon provided love and support to their parish members and friends through visiting, writing letters or calling.
Marlene Linthicum coordinated the Homebound Ministries activities. Toddi Harlan handled requests for meals for those in need; Randy Brown arranged for transportation for those needing rides to doctor’s appointments or other activities; Judi Martin coordinated request for visits to members or friends of the church.
Communion elements were prepared by Debbie Jeske and Ellie Miller. An average of 145 persons were served on the first Sunday of each month. Homebound Communion teams were organized by Kathy McClellan.
Thanksgiving Baskets were organized by Dan Gonzalez with gracious help from Larry Stout. Our church community generously contributed enough food and funding to provide for 210 baskets. Our youth group members and Deacons organized and packed the baskets this year. The baskets were distributed to Pomona Hope, Inland Valley Hope Partners, Ekstrand Elementary School, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church.
Priscilla Van Horn was the treasurer of the Deacons fund.
The Prayer Chain led by Julie Howard (email) and Barbara Shock (phone tree) received an average of 5 requests a month.
Through the tremendous generosity of our congregation and friends we were able to provide a $ 10,000 dollar donation to assist those in need as a result of floods and fires. The donation was given to the Presbyterian Disaster Relief Fund.
Once again, thanks to the amazing generosity of our church family, the Deacons were able to provide financial assistance for every request received. Love gifts went toward counseling, mortgage/rent, car expenses such as fuel or repairs, flowers for the sick or grieving, Thanksgiving baskets, gift cards for food, and assistance with refreshments and flowers for memorial services.
The Board of Deacons feels truly blessed of God to be able to serve our church family, friends and community.
