1) To see each person as brought by God to LVHPC, to welcome them and to connect with them as they seek to grow into their relationship with God and LVHPC.
2) To provide opportunities for people to have experiences and resources that will build connections to foster Christian fellowship and growth in their own faith journeys.
3) To continue to grow a presence of LVHPC in the community of La Verne.
Members of our team: Barbara Allison, Marcia Edmondson, Toddi Harlan, Marlene Linthicum, Kathy McClellan, Gloria McLean, Ellie Miller, Judy Pfeifer, Joanne Salyards and Anne Warder. We say good bye with thanks to Kathy and Anne for their ministries.
Connect MG hosts annual social events. The Dinner 8’s and the Progressive dinner allow people to bring a friend or a spouse. This year over 70 people participated in the two events. We also host Ladies’ Teas to provide ways for newcomers to get acquainted with others. Connect coordinates weekly coffee on the patio, the book exchange, (complete with donuts) and the Easter fellowship time. All the patio gatherings allow visitors as well as our LVHPC community an opportunity to linger longer and enjoy each other’s company after worshiping together. Watch for a church wide afternoon bunco event coming in May!
We encourage a family-connecting atmosphere. We welcome visitors with a loaf of homemade bread. Our birthday card ministry has deepened as the current staff signs the birthday cards and prays for each person. It is an ongoing goal to get everyone’s birthday recorded. The monthly Vista “Mystery Person” helps us all know one another better. We are adding more columns in the Vista for people to share personal news and church history. We keep the web site current for our church family and as an outreach. Our current community outreach is limited. We are the sponsoring group for Calla’s BFRB support group which meets at our church. We provide outside welcoming banners for Christmas and Easter services. Our only activity that is specific in deepening faith is the summer video Bible series for women.
Serving often brings us closer to others and grows a heart for God. The above activities all depend on volunteer hours of numerous people. Some require more specific skill sets – maintaining the website (which includes the sermons and the photography), placing the banners in front of our church, writing newspaper articles. Other skills are good entry point. These include baking bread, making birthday cards, preparing and cleaning up the coffee, co-hosting the name tag table every other Communion Sunday, delivering bread to visitors, bringing treats for the patio Easter celebration, and hosting a Dinner 8 or a course at the Progressive Dinner. We as a team continue to be grateful for all God enables us to do and for the support of Session and the congregation. We have a strong team and supportive members at large who faithfully and creatively serve in their areas of ministry. Thanks to you, our wonderful LVHPC family. We welcome anyone to join us in our ministries. We look forward to My One Word experiences.
